Concept drawings are the beginning stages of design usually done by hand because it allows me to achieve what ever I want without limitations of a computer, keyboard or mouse. Several scraps of paper were used before I settled on something suitable to show the client. Then I carefully rendered it with layers of colour so the client can imagine it.
This design accentuates the different corners of the garden for different uses and views from within the house. Two trees provide some scale and enclosure to the back yard.
Front entrance achieves several design requests. The driveway allows cars exit forwards rather than reversing. The garden beds provide some definition to the driveway vs pedestrian entrance way.
This large home on a corner section and the rules for driveway length meant a generous setback and a relatively small private backyard. The adjacent rooms meant it could be divided into five spaces to maximise the use of the backyard.
Four main criteria are achieved in this concept design. An outdoor lounge, BBQ/Fire place, a private spa, and a screened services area
Very steep sloped site with three existing retaining walls and oddly placed steps. The new steps make use of a japanese trick to turn the visitor around to enjoy all views of the garden.
